When the Reverend Jesse Jackson made those comments about how he wanted to "cut Barack Obama's
nuts off" I knew I had the inspiration for a painting. Of course, I had no desire to portray any
sort of ghastly, gruesome imagery that would take Jackson's comments literally because
I'm trying to make these paintings PG-rated and clean. But I thought it would be fun to
experiment with some symbols and images that would indirectly convey what Jackson said without
having to be explicit in showing any castration images, which of course would be crude,
disgusting and in bad taste. We all know that Jesse Jackson meant what he said
figuratively and this painting is done in good fun, just as a way of recording and
commemorating a moment in election history.
For some reason I've really been creeped out by that pig dude, "Benjamin Bankes," on those Feed the Pig.Org commercials
and I've wanted to include him in a painting. I remember back to my days as a child and watching
my uncles who were pig farmers castrate the pigs and I knew that thanks to Jesse Jackson I now had an opportunity to make a
connection with Benjamin Bankes and the presidential campaign!
Jesse Jackson stands on a Hawaiian beach with his scissors in his hand, holding two beach balls
which symbolize "you know what". Hahahahaha. And two hairy chicks (whom I see as disgruntled
Hillary supporters. Hahahaha) are in the ocean playing volleyball with the same types of balls
while Barack comes out of the ocean. This image of Barack coming out of the water is inspired by
that famous pic everyone has seen with Barack in his swimming trunks while on vacation.
Barack is enjoying the Hawaiian weather of his homeland and is oblivious to the fact that there
are people around him who could possibly be so pissed off and upset with him. All of this to me
expresses the juxtaposition of how Barack's followers feel about him-- seeing this messenger of
hope and change and sunny weather-- with how some in the black community like Jackson feel about
him, or Hillary supporters and some Republicans. It is just interesting how a guy can inspire
such vastly different feelings and emotions in people. Many of his supporters get all warm and
fuzzy inside when they think of him while others wants to CUT HIS NUTS OFF AND PLAY BEACH
VOLLEYBALL WITH THEM?!! In the end let's all hope that Obama wins the election, takes the
scissors from Jesse Jackson's hand and uses them to give those hairy Hillary supporters a good
shave!
