change in underwear at white houseWhile this is my painting to commemorate Barack Obama's 365-173 electoral college vote victory over Senator John McCain, I also wanted to pay tribute to John McCain and thank him for being such an integral part of one of the most exciting, interesting elections in my lifetime. All through the campaign I was constantly amazed and impressed by how TOUGH John McCain is and I imagined that he must have some sort of magic electric skeleton inside of his body, perhaps something they imbedded him with during his POW days during the Vietnam War. I guess I imagined it was sort of like that superhero character, Wolverine, who had adamantium bonded to his skeleton, only with John McCain it was some unknown, alien metal from outer space. This metal was recovered by the Viet Kong during a secret expedition underneath an Aztec pyramid in Mexico.

The skeleton has different colored bones consisting of a different metal and each color represents a characteristic of John McCain that we can all admire:

YELLOW to represent his courage (I know that yellow usually symbolizes cowardice, but since McCain is a maverick it means the opposite here). John McCain showed unbelievable strength and courage during his days in captivity, and he also proved he was a maverick, I think, in his pick of Sarah Palin as his running-mate. It was a big gamble, took alot of guts, and it electrified the entire nation.

SKY BLUE to represent the hopes and dreams Mccain had for America. Though I desperately wanted our country to go in a different direction than McCain, I honestly believe he felt he could change Washington, that he felt he could come in and bust some heads, reform our country's political and economic system, and get us back on top. He was a woeful underdog through most of the campaign and it was his deep-seated idealism and belief in himself that kept him fighting all the way to the end. Even if you don't agree with McCain and his views, I think he is a damn good American and an admirable man for sticking to his guns and continuing to struggle on no matter what.

PINK to represent John's McCain's sheer "manliness" (I know that pink is normally thought of as a female color, but since McCain is a maverick it means the opposite here). There is alot to be said these days about someone who still represents the old school notions of testosterone-filled, fighting, tough, sweating pure MEN in our country, who make no apologies for being a fighter and who laugh at the notion of crying while watching a sad movie. I mean, really, can you imagine a man like John McCain crying while watching a movie such as Steven Spielberg's E.T? Or Ghost with Patrick Swayze? Just because Senator McCain admitted that Abba is one of his favorite bands doesn't mean he sits around crying while he listens to them. So let's give a round of applause to all the tough guys in our nation, please, because I think they are all more than deserving.

Lastly, the LIGHT GREEN is meant to honor our nation's fallen war veterans. It symbolizes the green grass atop all the soldier's graves who died so bravely for our freedoms. Though John McCain survived his horrible ordeal as a POW, to me he still symbolizes, more than any other politcal figure in America, all the sacrifices our brave fighting men and women have made and we should all be graterful for their service.

I refer to Senator McCain as "John McCrypt" in this painting as just a light-hearted joke about his age, but also to connect to the story of his electric skeleton bones being dug up from underneath an Aztec pyramid. Also in this painting I have placed a particular focus on my home state of Indiana because I am so proud that Indiana has gone BLUE FOR OBAMA during this election, going Democrat for the first time since 1964. I honestly didn't think it would happen. Of course, I had to include Peyton Manning in this painting also as a sort of good luck charm foer my Indianapolis Colts to get their season turned around this year and perhaps win another Super Bowl!!
